How to Do a Dual Screen on an iMac (9 Steps)

Determine the type of video connection used with the external monitor you wish to connect to the iMac. The iMac features a Mini DisplayPort on the back of the monitor that supports DVI, VGA and dual-link DVI connections through the use of different adapters. DVI and VGA are two of the most common connections used with computer monitors. The type of connection your external monitor uses should be printed beneath its connection port (see Resources).
Plug in the appropriate Mini DisplayPort adapter for your monitor. The Mini DisplayPort connector is located in the lower-left corner on the back of your iMac to the right of the USB cable and ethernet cable inputs (see Resources).
Turn on the external monitor and the iMac computer.
Connect the external monitor's connection cable to the Mini DisplayPort adapter that you connected to the back of the computer.
Click the 'Finder' icon on the iMac Dock and then click the 'Applications' folder. Click 'System Preferences' to open the 'System Preferences' dialog box. Click 'Displays' beneath the 'Hardware' subheading to bring up the 'Display Settings' dialog box.
Click 'Detect Displays' in the lower-right side of the dialog box to force the iMac to detect the external display. Once the computer detects the external display, select the 'Arrangement' tab. Two boxes will appear in the dialog box, representing your monitors. The box with the white bar across the top of it represents the iMac monitor while the other box represents the external monitor.
Drag the box that represents your external monitor to the appropriate side of the box that represents your iMac monitor. For example, if your external monitor is on the left side of your iMac, drag the box representing the external monitor to the left side of the box representing the iMac monitor.
Place a checkmark next to the 'Mirror Displays' option in the lower-left corner of the 'Arrangement' dialog box if you want to use the external display to mirror the iMac display. Remove the check mark from the 'Mirror Displays' option if you want to use the external display as an extended display. This means that the monitor will act as an extension of your iMac's desktop, letting you drag the mouse cursor from one screen to the other. You can display programs, movies, applications or anything else on the second monitor to free up space on the iMac's main screen.
Close the 'Display Preferences' window to save the changes.

How to Set the Display on a Macbook to Mirror

Locate a video-out port on the side of your MacBook. The available ports will depend on your MacBook's model. For example, a MacBook Air has a Thunderbolt port, while a MacBook Pro with Retina display has two Thunderbolt 2 ports and an HDMI port.
Examine the video port on the external display, and then use the appropriate cable or adapter to connect your MacBook to the display. For example, if your display has a DVI port and your MacBook has a Thunderbolt port, use a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter to connect the two devices. In this example, connect the Mini DisplayPort end of the adapter to your MacBook's Thunderbolt port, and then connect the other end to the display's DVI port.
Open the 'Apple' menu, and then select 'System Preferences.'
Click the 'Displays' icon, and then select the 'Arrangements' tab.
Click the 'Mirror Displays' check box in the lower left corner of the window.

How to Connect an Acer Monitor to a MacBook

Look at the ports on the left side of the MacBook and the back of the Acer monitor. A MacBook can be connected to an external monitor that has either a DVI or VGA port. The ports on the monitor will either be labeled or have a corresponding icon next to them. If you are unsure what an icon means, look in the 'Features' section of your user manual. Make sure your Acer monitor model has the correct port.
Plug one end of the connection cable into the monitor and the other end into the MacBook. If you are using a DVI cable connection, plug each end directly into each device. If you are using a VGA cable connection, you have to use the mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter that comes with your MacBook. Plug one end of the VGA cable into the VGA end of the adapter and insert the adapter DVI end into the laptop. Plug the other end of the VGA cable into the monitor.
Turn on both devices. After your MacBook powers up, it will automatically detect and display the desktop on both screens. Your Acer monitor is now ready for configuration.
Click on the 'Apple' icon on the top left corner of the desktop. From the drop-down list, select 'System Preferences' followed by 'Display.' A new 'Display' window will appear that has the available options that can be changed. For example, you can change the screen resolution of the Acer monitor, change the arrangement of the displays and whether you want to mirror the MacBook's display, or extend the desktop to the Acer monitor.

How to Hook Up a MacBook to a Larger Monitor (5 Steps)

Locate the mini-display port plug on the left side of the laptop, when looking at the keyboard. It's the third input from the right, or the first large plug from the right after the headphone inputs.
Plug the small mini-display port adapter into the plug on the side of the MacBook.
Plug the DVI cable from the Dell monitor into the DVI side of the adapter and tighten the screws.
Turn on the computer and the second monitor and allow it to boot up. Open up the System Preferences pane on the dock and click on the 'Display' icon on the second row, one column to the right. This will pull up the Display pane on both screens.
Choose the resolution that you want for your second monitor by clicking on the appropriate number. Then click on the 'Arrangement' menu option. Use the mouse to click and drag the monitors into the orientation that you want. For example, if you have your MacBook on the left and the second monitor on the right, then drag the second monitor to the right of the other using the mouse. How to Connect a MacBook Pro to a Samsung TV (5 Steps)

Examine the backside of your Samsung TV to find which display ports are available. Apple produces Mini DisplayPort adapters that are compatible with DVI, HDMI --- with a third-party adapter --- and VGA cables, so you'll want to see which port type your TV has in common. HDMI ports are semi-rectangular, while VGA ports are rhombus-shaped with several rows of pins. DVI ports feature a grid with multiple female pinholes.
Plug the rhombus-shaped end of the corresponding Mini DisplayPort adapter into your MacBook Pro. The DVI, HDMI and VGA Mini DisplayPort adapters all feature the same functionality, so which type you use ultimately comes down to personal preference.
Plug one end of the corresponding display cable into the other side of the Mini DisplayPort adapter.
Connect the other end of the display cable into the appropriate port on the Samsung TV.
Turn on both devices, if you haven't yet done so. Set the TV's TV/Video settings to the corresponding mode --- HDMI if you're connected via HDMI, for instance --- to begin using the MacBook Pro on the TV.
