How to Keep a Mac From Overheating (4 Steps)

Download Apple's firmware fix to adjust your Mac's fan. Navigate to Apple's Firmware Update 1.3 Web page. Click on 'Download' on the right side of the page. Open your 'Downloads' file, and click on 'SMC Update.pkg.' Click 'Continue,' then 'Agree.' Click 'Install.' Restart your MacBook Pro.
Place your laptop on solid surfaces. If you use your laptop while it's sitting on soft surface, such as a pillow or blanket, the vents on the back of the MacBook may be blocked. This will cause the Mac to overheat.
Store your laptop in a cool, climate-controlled environment. Never leave your Mac in a hot car or in direct sunlight. When the electronic components get too hot, they won't perform correctly when you turn on your computer. This can cause the fan to malfunction.
Purchase a laptop cooler. If you spend hours at a time on your computer, a laptop cooler can help keep your Mac from overheating. Most laptop coolers are metal platforms that elevate your laptop off your work surface. They have incorporated fans that provide extra airflow to keep your laptop cool. Some require an electrical outlet to power the fans, while others plug into a USB port on your laptop.

Back up all of your data. Before attempting to remove your existing hard drive, it is essential to save all of your data.
Shut down your computer and let it cool for 30 minutes. You will not want to attempt to remove a hard drive that has been running because the internal components may be too hot to handle.

Turn the computer upside down and lay it on the soft lint-free cloth.
Release the battery hatch by taking a coin and turning it counterclockwise. The battery should pop right out.
Touch the metal surface underneath the battery. This will discharge any static charge and is extremely important to do before proceeding.

Remove the RAM door, an L-shaped bracket, that you previously loosened.
Unroll the hard drive pull tab. You will see a white tab that looks like tape. Pull it slowly to remove the hard drive.

How to Fix a Laptop That Makes a Clicking Noise

Insert a CD or DVD into the optical disk drive to determine if the drive is making the clicking noise. Power the computer off and on to determine if the noise persists while the computer is turned off, or if the noise only occurs while the computer powers up or runs.
Remove any CD or DVD from the disk drive. If the computer makes a clicking sound only when reading from the disk drive, the disk itself may be the problem or the drive may be bad. Insert a different DVD or CD in the drive. If the noise continues, replace the drive or take the computer to a repair shop.
Remove the laptop from any uneven surface. If the surface is not level, the hard drive may not function properly and produce a clicking noise. Place the computer on a level surface and restart it to check that the clicking noise is gone.
Back up any important information from your hard drive onto a CD or external hard drive. If the clicking sound is coming from your hard drive, the drive may be going bad. Back up your important information while the drive is still working. Take the computer to a professional computer repair store to determine if you need to replace your hard drive.
Replace the hard drive if the drive makes a clicking sound because it no longer functions properly. Take the computer to a repair shop or send it to the manufacturer to replace the hard drive. If you have the expertise, you can purchase a new hard drive and replace it yourself. Consult your laptop owner's manual before attempting any repairs.

How to Transfer iTunes to a Laptop (5 Steps)

Plug your iPod into your old computer and ensure that all of the music from iTunes on that computer has been successfully transferred to your iPod. If you plug in your iPod regularly, this synchronization process should only take a few moments. When the synchronization is complete, unplug your iPod from this computer.
Install iTunes on your new laptop if you do not already have it. Do this by going to the Apple website (see Resources), clicking on the 'Download iTunes' link and following the prompts. Open iTunes once the installation is complete.
Plug your iPod with all the songs you want to transfer into the laptop onto which you want to transfer them. This will prompt iTunes to open a window with three options: 'Cancel,' 'Erase and Sync' (which erases all the songs on your iPod that are not on your laptop and then synchronizes your iPod to the laptop) and 'Transfer Purchases.' This last option transfers all the authorized iTunes purchases on your iPod to the new computer.
Click on 'Transfer Purchases.' This will open a new window asking you whether you want to 'authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes store.' Click 'Authorize.' Next, iTunes will prompt you to log in with your Apple ID and password. Click 'Authorize' again when you have done this.
Click the 'OK' button on the window that appears telling you how many computers you have authorized with this account (out of a limit of five). This will prompt the transfer from your iPod to your new laptop to begin.

How to Increase Memory in a Macbook (5 Steps)

Turn the computer over so that you can see the screws around the perimeter of the bottom of the computer. Remove them using the phillips-head screwdriver, then place them to the side. There are two different length screws, so make sure you keep them separate and note which ones go where.
Lift the bottom of the case off of the laptop at the vents near the back of the case, which will also release the two clips which hold it in place. Set the bottom of the case to the side.
Locate the ram in the computer. This is on the left side, just below a fan, and is about two to three inches wide. Push the tabs on either side of the ram away from the ram chip itself, which will pop up the ram. Pull the ram straight out of the socket. If you're installing two ram chips, repeat the process for the second layer of ram just underneath the first.
Push the replacement ram into the socket and push the clips onto the sides of the ram. Repeat this process with the additional piece of ram if you are installing it as well.
Place the bottom cover back onto the computer and reinstall the screws using the phillips-head screwdriver. Turn on the computer. If the ram is not installed correctly, you will get an error message right off the bat, so go back in and double check to make sure that it's installed firmly in the socket.
