How to Create Mac Backup Disks

Determine whether your computer burns DVDs or CDs. Select 'About This Mac' from the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen. From this screen, click on 'More Info' and then choose 'Disc Burning' from the 'Hardware' menu of the System Profiler to see what kinds of media your computer is capable of writing.
Purchase a few CDs or DVDs. If you need to back up more than 800 megabytes of data at once, DVDs are the better option if your computer can make them.
Insert the blank disk into your computer and notice that its icon appears on the desktop. Drag the files and folders that you want to back up onto the CD/DVD icon. The computer will need to copy the files onto the disk before you can burn it.
Click on the disk icon once so that it is highlighted. Select the 'File' menu and scroll down to 'Burn Disc.' Check to be sure that you've copied all of your files to the backup disk before you burn it.
