How to Clean the Screen on a MacBook (5 Steps)

Turn off the computer, unplug the power cord and remove the battery. Whenever using liquid of any kind around a MacBook, or any computer, it is important to have all power to the unit turned off and removed to protect you from shock.
Dampen a soft, lint-free cloth with water. Don't use anything other than water unless it is purchased from an authorized Apple Dealer. It is important that liquid is not sprayed directly onto the screen.
Gently wipe the screen with the dampened cloth. Even using just a cloth and water it is easy to clean off most smudges and fingerprints from the screen.
Wipe the screen down with a soft dry cloth after it has been cleaned to dry any liquid still on the screen and prevent streaking.
Replace the battery, plug the power adapter back in and power up the MacBook. The screen will be crisp and clear. It is a good idea to clean the screen every month to prevent the build up of grime.

How to Clean a Laptop Touchpad

Turn off the power to the laptop. You can also unplug it and remove the battery to avoid any potential short of the system or shock to you.
Dampen a cloth lightly with the distilled water. Dab off any excess onto the second cloth or dry part of the same cloth. Rub the touchpad with light pressure to remove the dirt. Dry with the second cloth.
Mix one part distilled water to one part isopropyl alcohol in a bowl or cup for a stronger cleaning solution if necessary. Moisten the cloth with the solution and rub the touchpad with light pressure. Wipe dry with the second cloth.
