How to Change the Administrator Name on a Mac
Login to your Mac using the administrator account. To do this, select the administrator account from the login screen. Depending on your settings, you may need to enter the administrator password. If you are already logged in with another account, then first select 'Log Out [Account name]...' from under the Apple Menu at the far left of the top menu bar.
Open the System Preferences application. This program is located by default in your Applications folder, but you may have moved it somewhere else. The appearence of the icon varies depending on what version of Mac OS you are using. In Mac OS 10.5, its icon looks like three gears in a silver-colored box, but in earlier versions of Mac OS X it may look like a light switch.
Select 'Accounts' in the System section. The Accounts icon looks like the silhouettes of two people, and is usually at the beginning of the fourth row of icons, under the 'System' header. Click on the icon.
Select the administrator account from the list on the left of the Accounts window. Administrator accounts say 'Admin' under the account name. Change the administrator status of an account by checking or unchecking the 'Allow user to administer this computer' box. If there is only one account, it will have administrator privileges by default.
Change the text in the 'Name' field to the new administrator name. Enter the administrator password to confirm the change.

The Backlight Won't Stay on in My MacBook (6 Steps)
Locate the 'screen brightness' keys towards the top of the keyboard. These are also labeled as the 'F5' and 'F6' keys respectively. Press each one to see if the screen brightness increases or decreases. Repeat this step while holding down the 'fn' key until the desired brightness is reached. If this does not work, proceed to Step 2.
Click the 'Apple' logo on the top left of the screen and select 'Force Quit' to stop all applications. Select 'Sleep' from the same 'Apple' menu and allow the computer to sleep. Press any key to wake the computer. If the backlight is not back on fully, proceed to Step 3.
Click the 'Apple' logo and select 'Shut down.' Turn the computer back on after the computer has fully shut down. If the problem still persists, proceed to Step 4 to begin a System Management Controller Reset (SMC).
Shut down the computer and unplug the power supply connector. Remove the battery. On the polycarbonate body MacBooks, use a coin to turn the 'battery latch' to the open position and lift the battery out. On the aluminum unibody Macbook, remove the back panel screws (note the location of each screw for replacement) and lift the panel off. Lift the battery out of the case.
Press the 'power button' and hold it down for 5 seconds. You may hear a tone or beep. Release the power button.
Replace the battery and the back panel with screws if you removed those. Reconnect the power supply cable and turn the computer back on. Use the 'brightness' control keys (F5 and F6) to reach the desired brightness.

How to Use a Macbook
Connect the MacBook's power supply by attaching its MagSafe connector to the port in the top left corner. The power supply plugs into any power outlet. If you need more cord length or a more secure connection, disconnect the plug prongs from the power pack and connect the included extension cord with a grounded plug at the end.
Turn the MacBook on by pressing the start button, which is in the top right-hand corner of the console. It has the standard power symbol of a circle with a line through it.
Navigate the MacBook's available applications on the dock located at the bottom of the screen. The standard programs on a MacBook include the calendar program iCal, the web browser Safari, the music-sharing program iTunes, the media player QuickTime, the online photo album iPhoto and iLife, which creates media files through iDVD, IMovie and Garage Band.
Open the Finder window in OS X by clicking the smiley-face icon at the dock's far left end. You can access your files in this window, which are organized by downloads, movies, pictures, music, documents and more. You can also search hard drive devices and other places with the lists on the far left.
Click on 'Applications' on the left side of the Finder window to search through all the applications on the MacBook, including the ones not seen on the dock. If you want one of these programs on the dock, drag the icon onto the dock and the icon will be added.
Access System Preferences by clicking on the square icon with gears. In this window you can set up and customize things such as the security settings, parental controls, software updates and wireless networking.
Connect peripheral devices to the MacBook using any of its four available ports. The MacBook comes with two USB ports, a FireWire port and a mini-DVI port. These are all on the computer's left edge with the power connector and Ethernet port. Audio input and output ports are on this side as well.
Insert CDs or DVDs into the disc drive on the computer's right side. The drive will read all CD-ROMS with Mac-compatible software, along with music CDs and DVDs. While all MacBook drives have a DVD player, they don't all have a DVD recorder. Check with the dealer for your model.

How to Recover an Overwritten File on a Mac (4 Steps)
Open the folder where your overwritten or deleted file was located in the Finder. If it was on the Desktop, simply close all other windows.
Select 'Enter Time Machine' from the Time Machine (backwards-running clock) icon in the Applications folder. Alternatively, if you have the Time Machine icon in your dock, simply select that.
