How to Use an iPhone as an Apple TV Remote

Turn on your iPhone and launch the App Store via the 'App Store' icon. This is the blue icon that is located by default on the bottom row of icons on the home screen of your iPhone. It will be listed literally as 'App Store.'
Search for the Remote app by typing 'Remote' into the App Store's search bar. Choose to install this app on your iPhone. You will have to input your iTunes username and password to confirm the installation procedure.
Turn on Home Sharing within iTunes. Click on the 'Home Sharing' listing on the left navigation screen within iTunes once you have launched the iTunes program.
Enter your Apple ID and password when prompted.
Connect your iPhone to your home Wi-Fi network. If you do not already have this connection established, click on the 'Settings' icon of your iPhone.
Click on the second listing within 'Settings' that reads 'Wi-Fi - Not Connected.' Ensure that the 'Wi-Fi' setting within this listing is switched to 'On.'
Select a network in the 'Choose a Network...' field. There will likely be more than one listing here. Be sure to select your home Wi-Fi network. This will connect you to Wi-Fi. If your Wi-Fi network is password protected, when selecting it for use, you will need to input this password into your iPhone.
Launch the Remote app and sign into Home Sharing when prompted using your iTunes ID and password.
Control your Apple TV by using your iPhone as the remote with the Remote app now launched and Home Sharing and Wi-Fi enabled. The Remote app uses an interface that is identical to how you navigate and browse videos on your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, so finding and purchasing movies and controlling them on your Apple TV will be immediately intuitive. You can back out of the Remote app and resume normal use of your phone whenever you like. The physical remote that ships with the Apple TV can still also be used.

How to Ping Your Network From an iPhone (8 Steps)

Make sure that your iPhone is connected to the network you want to scan via WiFi.
Go to the App Store on your iPhone and download the 'Network Ping Lite' application. It is a free app as of this writing.
Open the application and you will see four choices: Ping, Ping Subnet Traceroute, and Telnet. For this article we'll focus on the functions related to pinging.
Choose 'Ping' to ping a specific device.
Enter the DNS name (google.com) or IP address of the specific device you would like to ping and hit 'Start.' Your iPhone will now send out four ICMP packets and will tell you the outcome in the 'Output' section.
Note: You can do a continuous ping by flipping the 'Ping Forever' switch at the bottom.
Choose the 'Ping Subnet' icon to ping an entire subnet.
By default, the app should pick up the subnet that your iPhone is already on. You can change it to check a different subnet or range of IP addresses. (Note: It can only check Class C network subnets.) You can adjust the 'Ping Delay' which is the amount of time that the app will wait for a reply from the device before it declares it failed.
Hit 'Start' and the scan will begin. You'll see a table of all the possible Class C IP addresses for that subnet and the app will change the color of each as it scans to let you know which ones replied. Black = no reply. Green = Received reply. Yellow = last request failed. Red = stopped giving answer. The scan will take several minutes to complete, so be patient.

How to Export Pictures From an IPad to a MacBook

Turn on your iPad and connect it to your MacBook. If iPhoto doesn't launch automatically, click “Finder” in the Dock, choose “Applications” and double-click “iPhoto.”
Choose “iPad” in the Devices list, if it isn't selected, and click “Import Photos.” Alternatively, select photos individually by clicking the thumbnails in the New Photos window and click “Import Selected.”
Click “Delete Photos” in the dialog window after importing your photos. This option removes the pictures from your iPad's Camera Roll to conserve hard drive space. If you don't want to delete them, choose “Keep Photos” instead.
