How to Unlock an Apple Laptop When the Password is Lost

Put the Mac OS X Install disc into your Apple laptop. This should be the same version currently installed on your computer.
Find the 'Install and Restore' icon and click it.
Choose your language and select the arrow button.
Select the 'Utilities' menu or the 'Installer' menu, depending on your version.
Select 'Password Reset' or 'Reset Password,' depending on your version.
Find your Mac OS X hard disc volume from the 'Reset Password' window. If you're the only computer user, there should be only one option.
Select your account from the dropdown menu. Again, if you're the only user, you'll only see one option.
Enter and confirm a new password for your Apple laptop. Click the 'Save' button to save your new password.
Find the red button in the left hand corner of the 'Reset Password' window. Click it to close the window.
Select the 'Mac OS X Installer' and click 'Quit.'
Click 'Restart' to restart your laptop. You will then be able to enter your new password to unlock your system.

How to Unlock an Apple Mac Book Password

Locate the Mac OS X install disc your computer came with. If you don't have it, you may be able to get another one from Apple by calling (800) SOS-APPL. (You will most likely have to buy another one.) Insert the disc into the optical drive.
Restart the computer while holding down the 'C' key. A 'Utilities' or 'Installer' menu will appear, depending on which version of OS X you are running. Select 'Reset Password.'
Select 'Macintosh HD' from the available volumes. On the drop-down menu, select the name of the original administrator account. Do not select 'System Administrator.'
Choose a new password and enter it in the two fields. Click 'Save.'
