How to Use a Sony eBook Reader With a Mac

Use flash memory. The easiest and most reliable way to transfer files to and from the eReader is using memory cards. The eReader is powered by Sony's proprietary series of flash memory cards--the Memory Stick Duo. Using a card reader, files can be transferred from the Mac to the card and vice versa.
Connect with the USB cable. Regardless of the type of device, Macs can read any device with flash memory as an external hard drive. When bridged by USB cable, the Mac will treat the eReader as if it were a card reader, permitting the user to move files to and from the Memory Stick.
Utilize Boot Camp. Since 2005, Apple's MacBook and iMac computers have been equipped with Intel microprocessor chips--the same chips used in Windows-based PCs. The Macintosh operating system features an application called Boot Camp, which, when paired with the Intel processor, allows users to install Windows on their Macintosh computer and operate it. With Windows operating, install the Sony eReader software and use it to download and manage files.
Install Parallels. Parallels is an application which, when installed directly to a Mac, permits the user to run Windows and its applications as if it were just another Macintosh program. This can be installed and run concurrently with other Macintosh software without having to boot in a different mode. The eReader software can be run from Parallels.
Install Calibre. This open-source software is available for free from the developer's website. Calibre is a digital media management program that provides management of all digital files. What makes it attractive is its ability to convert files--PDF, HTML, Office documents-- nto the native file format of the eReader (*.lrf). Calibre cannot download new books from Sony, but it can assist with the backup and loading of non-eBook files to the unit.

How to Make a Magazine iPad App

Research existing magazine apps available for the iPad on the App Store. Download as many as possible, and take note of layout techniques, types of articles and any multimedia content the publisher is using.
Plan your iPad magazine app exactly as you would plan a print and paper version, taking into account the benefits and styles observed in the digital magazine apps you have researched. Create a page-by-page plan with rough sketches of how the content will be displayed, its location on the iPad's screen and how the reader will move between pages. This is known as a flat plan. It is not necessary to include the actual written content within the flat plan.
Gather the magazine's content in a word processing package such as Microsoft Word, Apple's Pages or Google Docs. Include the text only, with page breaks or separate documents for each article, feature or news item you intend to include within the magazine app. Include annotations to make clear exactly where each piece of content will fit into the flat plan.
Gather together any illustrations, images, photos or multimedia content that will support the magazine app's written content. Clearly identify where each piece of illustration will fit within the layout on your flat plan.
Take your flat plan and content to an approved iPad developer. Spend some time discussing your layout and operational requirements with the software developer, using your flat plan as a guide for how the magazine app will work. If required, make adjustments to the flat plan following the consultation with the developer.
Register as an Apple developer at the iOS Developer Program if you intend to build the magazine app yourself. As of the date of publication, registration requires a $99 fee. Once registered, download the iOS software development kit and the iPad Programming Guide and begin building your magazine app.
Distribute the magazine app to a small number of trusted iPad owners to test it. Gather feedback and bug reports from the testers, and make adjustments to the layout, operation and content as required. If there is available time and money, send the magazine out to the testers once again after initial feedback has been applied to the app. This should be carried out whether you create the app yourself, or hire a software developer to build it for you.
Submit your magazine app to Apple for approval and distribution. If you hired a developer, they may be in a better position to submit the app to Apple for you. Approval typically takes up to two weeks, after which the magazine app will be available to download from the App Store to the iPad.

How to add and remove icons from Mac's dock (3 Steps)

Add a program to your Dock by opening your Applications folder, then dragging the icon that corresponds to the application to the Dock itself. Click and hold the icon, then drag it to the Dock and hover over it momentarily. You can move your mouse to set where the icon will show up--the other icons in the Dock will move to make room for it. When you are satisfied, release the mouse and the icon will remain there.
Change the options of a program that is already running by right-clicking on the icon (for single-button mice, press the 'Ctrl' key and click), hover over 'Options,' then click 'Keep in Dock.' The icon will remain in the Dock until you choose to remove it.
Remove an icon from the Dock by clicking and holding it, then dragging it off the Dock onto a blank part of your screen and releasing your mouse. The icon will vanish in a puff of smoke-literally. The icon will not reappear in your Dock unless you open the program via another shortcut, and it will not remain there unless you right-click to change its options.
