How to Tether a Samsung to a MacBook
Contact your cellular service provider and obtain the provider's Access Point Number. This number varies depending on the carrier that provides network access to your Samsung. The number may also be located in your service contract.
Plug one end of your USB cable into the corresponding port on your Samsung device. Plug the other end of the cable into the USB port of your MacBook. Wait a few seconds for the MacBook to recognize the device. A dialog box appears indicating that the computer detects a new interface. Click 'OK.'
Click the Apple icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and click 'System Preferences' from the menu options. This opens the System Preferences window. Click 'Network' from the options provided. This is the gray circular icon in the Internet and Wireless section. This opens the Network Settings window. In the telephone number field, enter the following: *99#. Leave the account name and password fields empty.
Click the 'Advanced' button in the lower right-hand corner of the Network Settings box. Click the 'Vendor' drop-down menu and click 'Samsung.' Click the 'Model' drop-down menu and click 'GPRS (GSM/3G).' Below this dialog box is the APN field. Enter your access point number into this field.
Click 'OK' in the bottom right-hand corner. This takes you back to the Network Settings window. Click 'Apply' in the bottom right-hand corner of the window. The status at the top of the window changes to 'Connected,' indicating that the tether is successful.
