How to Tether With an iPad (3 Steps)
Acquire a portable device capable of receiving a cellular data signal and acting as a Wi-Fi router. This could be a jail-broken iPhone with a suitable application running, a cell phone, a smartphone or a portable 3G router. Follow its instructions to begin transmitting a Wi-Fi signal.
Launch the iPad's 'Settings' application, and tap the 'Wi-Fi' button. The iPad will automatically scan for wireless networks within range.
Tap the entry for your portable Wi-Fi router. If requested, enter the security key and tap the 'Connect' button. The iPad will now receive an Internet connection from the Wi-Fi router.
