How to Write Letters on a MacBook Pro (12 Steps)
Open the TextEdit application. Find the TextEdit icon in your Applications folder and double-click to launch the application.
Begin typing your letter in the Untitled document window that appears when you open the application.
Highlight the words you wish to stylize and select the appropriate option from the 'Styles' drop-down menu in the top-left corner of the document window. You can make text bold, italic, underlined, shadowed, outlined or struck through.
Use the alignment buttons, located to the right of the 'Styles' menu, to change the alignment of the text. Choose left align, center, justify or right align.
Use the 'Spacing' drop-down menu to change the document spacing. Highlight the text you wish to change and select single space, double space or other. The 'Other' option allows you to enter specific line height, inter-line spacing and control the spacing before and after paragraphs.
Create a list. Type the list items on separate lines. Highlight the list items and select the type of list from the 'Lists' drop down menu. Choose from several styles of bullets, lettering or numbers.
Change the color of your text. Under the 'Format' menu at the top of your computer, select 'Font' and then 'Show Colors.' This will display the color picker. To change the color of your text, highlight the words you wish to change and click the color from the color picker.
To change the size of your words, highlight the text and then hold down the 'Command' key on your keyboard. Then press the '+' key to increase the size of the font or the '-' key to decrease the size of the font.
To insert a file to your document, click your cursor inside your document where you want the file to appear. Select 'Attach Files' from the 'File' menu. Locate the file on your computer that you wish to insert and then click the 'Open' button.
To check the spelling and grammar of your document, select 'Spelling and Grammar' from the 'Edit' menu and then select 'Check Spelling Now.'
To save your document, select 'Save As' from the 'File' menu. Type a file name into the 'Save As' box. Choose a folder to save your document in from the 'Where' drop-down menu. Select a file type from the 'File Format' drop-down list and then click the 'Save' button.
To print your document, select 'Print' from the 'File' menu. Choose your printer from the 'Printer' drop-down menu and click the 'Print' button.
