How to Free Up Virtual Memory on a Mac (3 Steps)

Hold down the Command button and hit the Tab key. All currently open applications will appear in a stripe of icons across the center of your screen. Continue to hold the Command button, and tab to each application you are not using, then hit the “Q” key to quit it. The application tab bar will remain on the screen until you release the Command key. (This can also be done from the Dock, but the Command-Tab method is much faster.)
Select “Log Out” from the Apple menu to return to the log-in screen of your Macintosh. All currently running user applications will quit, but background processes on your Macintosh will continue. This will free up more memory than the individual application method in Step 1.
Restart your Macintosh from the Apple menu, or by pressing the Power button and clicking the Restart button. This will clear out all of your virtual memory and start your memory over from scratch when your Macintosh finishes restarting.

How to Install Games on a Mac (11 Steps)

Insert the game CD into your Macintosh's CD drive.
Locate the icon for the CD on your desktop and double click to open it. Most commercial software CDs start with an open window to help you find the installer application faster.
Locate the game icon or the installer icon. They will be clearly labeled by the manufacturer, and they will usually have a .app extension.
Drag the game application to your Applications folder on the Macintosh, or double click the installer to launch it. If you're supposed to drag the icon to install it, the CD will show an arrow like this ===> pointing to a picture of the Applications folder as a cue of what to do.
Follow the installer directions in the dialog box that appears on your screen to complete the installation process. You will find your game icon in the Applications folder when the installation is complete.
Leave the CD in the disk drive if the game requires it in order to run. Many commercial games will only run if the original CD is still in the machine.
