How to Type German Accent Marks (7 Steps)

Use the ALT key and a numerical code to make an umlaut over the letter A. In order to make a lowercase ä, hold the ALT key and enter the numerical code 0228. To make the uppercase Ä symbol, hold the ALT key and enter 0196.
Hold down ALT and enter the numerical code 0214 to make the -- symbol. For the lowercase, ö, hold down ALT again and type 0246.
Continue holding the ALT key on your keyboard and enter 0220 or 0252 to make the Ü and ü symbols, respectively.
Create the miscellaneous symbols 'ß' and '€' by holding down the ALT key and entering either 0223 or 0128.
