How to Connect a Mac Computer to the Internet
Sign up for service with an Internet Service Provider, such as your local cable or phone company. It will charge you a monthly fee for this and will probably provide the cable modem (router) or DSL hardware that you need.
Connect your cable modem to your coaxial cable jack in your home or connect your DSL to your phone line. If you are using DSL, attach filters to every phone that is on a jack. These would have been provided with your modem by your ISP.
Connect the modem to the Ethernet port on your Mac using an Ethernet cable. Then turn on the modem if it isn't already on.
Click the Apple Menu and choose 'System Preferences' and then 'Network.' Under 'Show,' choose 'Built In Ethernet' from the drop-down box.
Click the 'TCP/IP' tab and under 'Configure IPV4' choose 'DHCP.'
Click 'Apply Now' at the bottom of the dialog box. This is usually all you have to do to get connected to the Internet on a Mac.
