How to buy an External DVD Burner for Macs (5 Steps)

Determine the speed you want. External DVD burners have different capabilities when it comes to the speed at which they burn DVDs. While the quickest burner sounds like the best option, you could be sacrificing other options.
Check your home DVD player to determine which types of DVDs it plays. Some home DVD players don't play either DVD-R or DVD+R disks. Purchase an external Mac DVD burner that will burn disks compatible with the players you plan to use them in.
Buy a Mac external DVD burner that can also play DVDs, if you have an older model Mac that does not support playing DVDs. A Pioneer mechanism in many newer Mac external DVD burners allow you to play DVDs produced by movie companies. Certain DVD burners like CD CyClone's DVD Revo don't support this feature.
Purchase an external DVD burner like the ClubMac FireWire for your Mac laptop computer that uses your laptop battery as a power supply for ultra portability. One downside of Mac units that don't use external power supplies is they tend to have loud cooling fans.
Pick a design that fits your needs. Mac external DVD burner cases come in styles that are barely larger than the drive itself to elaborate and colorful designs. The QPS Que Fire DVDBurner Pro has a small design for portability. Other drives are larger for desktop Mac computers.

How to Make a Screensaver for a Mac (5 Steps)

Open your finder by clicking on your hard drive icon. Click on 'Pictures,' open 'file' and click on 'New Folder.' 'Untitled folder' will appear under Pictures. Click on the folder and name it 'My Screen Saver.'
Drag as many photos and pictures that you would like to include in your screen saver to your new folder. If you would like the screen saver to play in a particular order, then arrange the photos from top to bottom in the folder according to the desired order (top photo is first); otherwise, the order does not matter.
Click on the Apple icon on the top left side of your screen. Click on 'System Preferences.' Click on 'Desktop and Screen savers.' Click on 'Screen Saver.' There will be a list of different folders under 'Screen Savers.' If your folder 'My Screen Saver' is not on the list, then click on the + button, and add that folder by clicking on 'Pictures' and then 'My Screen Saver.'
Click on 'My Screen Saver.' Your pictures should begin to show in the preview window. Below the preview window is a list of options you can use to customize your screen saver.
Adjust the 'Start screen saver' option by dragging the arrow to the appropriate length of inactivity needed for the screen saver to begin to play. Click on the 'Display Style' bar to select how you would like the pictures to be played (one after another, spinning in one after another, or beginning from one corner and showing the whole set). You can further customize your screen saver by selecting 'Options' and choosing 'random order,' 'cross-fade between slides,' 'zoom back and forth,' 'crop slides to fill screen' or 'keep sides centered.' Set your options and quit System Preferences.

How to DJ With a MacBook (3 Steps)

Djay is a downloadable DJ software program for Mac OS X that uses your iTunes library to let you cue up songs, create endless loops and seamlessly fade and transition between songs. The interface is designed to visually simulate the classic 'two turntables and a microphone' setup of an old school DJ. Choose a song from your iTunes library and Djay will begin to a play the song, allowing you to loop a beat at any point in the song, match tempo and beats with another song cued up, and fade between the two with an easy to use interface. The program has an auto pilot function, which mixes music and playlists automatically, and has a record function for recording mixes and podcasts.
Ask The DJ is a free automatic DJ program available for download that uses iTunes to create hours of uninterrupted play, based off of keywords you type into the engine. Ask The DJ scans your iTunes library, analyzing tracks for similar genres and beat patterns, then matches and mixes beats, as well as synchs volume level to create a seamless, continuous groove. As Ask The DJ is a very 'hands off' program, it is excellent for occasions where you don't want to have a live DJ or worry about changing records yourself.
AccuBeat Mix is an simple, easy to use beat and mix software application for Mac that is available as a download from the internet. The program allows users to mix and match beats seamlessly, manually or automatically. Though it lacks some of the fun, visual features of a program like Djay, it is available as a free demo, and the entire program can be purchased for cheap.

How to Transfer Music From RealPlayer to iTunes

Locate the digital music files on your PC. If you don't know where they are, double-click on 'My Computer' and search for digital music files. Digital music files may have one of the following file extensions: '.AAC,' '.MP3,' '.WAV,' '.AIFF' or '.aa.'
Open iTunes. Decide whether you want iTunes to automatically copy your digital music files to an iTunes folder. If you allow this, there will be two copies of each of your digital music files on your PC, doubling the amount of memory your files take up. You can decide to leave your digital music files where they are and iTunes will be able to play them. Or you can allow iTunes to copy your files and then manually delete them from the original location. Or you can keep two copies of each digital music file.
From the iTunes 'Edit' menu, select, 'Preferences.' Click on the 'Advanced' tab. Check or uncheck the box labeled 'Copy Files to iTunes Music Folder when Adding to Library' depending on what you have decided.
You can bypass this issue entirely by cutting and pasting your digital music files into the folder named 'iTunes Music' before you transfer your music into iTunes.
From the iTunes 'File' menu, select 'Add File to Library' if you want to transfer a single file or 'Add Folder to Library' if you want to transfer an entire folder at once.
Navigate to the file or folder you want to transfer and select it. Click 'Open.' iTunes will transfer your music into your iTunes library and you will be able to see all of your music when you open iTunes.

How to Play a Mini Disc

Open the drive you're using for your mini disc and put the disc inside with the center hole pressed over the tray's center spoke. If it's a music disc, put it into a CD player or CD drive. If the mini disc is a DVD disc, you'll need a DVD player or a computer's DVD drive to play it properly. For this we'll assume that you're using a computer's drive and not a DVD or CD player.
Close the tray. Left-click the 'Start' button and then left-click the 'Computer' option that comes up. A window showing you all of the components on your computer should come up, including the drive with the mini disc inside.
Double-left-click the drive with the mini disc in it. If the disc is a DVD disc or a CD, it will attempt to start playing the content on the disc using the appropriate program such as Windows Media Player.

How to Connect a Mac Computer to a TV

Determine the type of video connection that you will need to make between your Mac and your television. Look at the available ports on both devices to figure out what kind of wire you will need. Most modern analog televisions include a VGA port, and high definition sets generally have at least one HDMI and/or DVI port. Your Mac will likely include a VGA, a DVI/mini-DVI, and/or an HDMI port.
Decide if you want your Mac to output audio to the television. If not, your Mac will still play sound through its built-in speakers while it is hooked up to your television. However, some setups are better served with external audio output.
Connect the Mac to the television with both of your wires, starting with the video wire.
Set your television to the input to which you connected the Mac. For example, if you connected it to the HDMI port, switch the television screen to the HDMI input. Your Mac should recognize the television as a new display and begin outputting audio and video to it immediately. If it doesn't, open System Preferences (Apple > System Preferences...), click 'Displays,' and then click 'Detect Displays.'
Use OSX to set up the Mac's output mode. Go into the 'Displays' panel using the process in step 3 and click the 'Arrangement' tab. You should see two boxes in the middle of the window; a large blue box with a gray strip on top and a smaller blue box attached to it. By default, the large box with the gray strip represents your main screen (in this case, your Mac's display), while the smaller box represents your television. You can move these boxes around to switch the orientation of your screens as well as choose which screen will act as the 'main' display (the one with the menu bar on it). You can also check 'Mirror Displays' in the bottom left corner, which will make both screens show the same thing.
