How to Troubleshoot MacBook iSight

Click on the Apple logo in the top left of the screen and select 'Force Quit.' Select the open program you are trying to use 'iSight' with and select the 'Force Quit' button. Launch another application that uses iSight, such as 'Photo Booth' or 'iMovie.' If the camera functions with the new program but not the first program tried, proceed to Step 2.
Reopen the initial program you tried to use the camera with. Locate the 'Camera' settings option either on the menu bar across the top of the screen or by clicking 'File' and 'Preferences.' Verify that the iSight camera is the default camera. If the camera still does not function, proceed to Step 3.
Click on the 'Finder' icon in the 'Dock' at the bottom of the screen and select the 'Applications' folder. Under 'Applications,' click on the 'Utilities' folder followed by 'System Profiler.' Locate the 'USB' heading in the left side column and click on it. Look for the 'iSight' entry. If the entry is present, the camera should be functioning. If it is not present or the camera still does not function, proceed to Step 4.
Click the Apple logo at top left of screen and select 'Sleep.' Press any key to wake the computer and try the camera again. If it does not work, select 'Restart' from the Apple logo options and try again. Finally, select 'Shut Down' and allow the computer to power down. Power on the computer, and try the camera once more. Proceed to Step 5 if the issue is still not resolved.
Shut down the computer. Disconnect the power supply cable. Turn the MacBook over and remove the battery. If the battery is inside the case and not removable without taking off the backing, simply skip the battery removal.
Press and hold down the 'Power' button for five seconds. Replace the battery and reconnect the power cable. Press the 'Power' button once more to turn the MacBook back on. This will reset the 'System Management Controller' or 'SMC.'
