How to Type Spanish Words Using a MacBook (8 Steps)

Click the 'Apple' icon in the upper left corner of the screen (called the 'Apple Menu') and select 'System Preferences...' from this menu.
Click the 'Language & Text' icon.
Click the 'Input Sources' button.
Check the box labeled 'Show Input menu in menu bar.' This allows you to switch keyboard layouts by clicking a small flag icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
Scroll the list of languages to 'Spanish' and check the box next to it. This enables the Spanish keyboard layout.
Close the 'Language & Text' window by clicking the red 'X' in the upper left corner of the window.
When you wish to type in Spanish, click the new flag icon in the upper right corner of the screen, and then click the Spanish flag. The keyboard will now function as a Spanish language keyboard, providing all the necessary accent marks for typing in Spanish.
When you wish to type in English, click the flag icon and select the American flag. The keyboard layout will return to the standard English layout.
