How to Turn off an Apple Laptop Light

Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of the desktop, then click 'System Preferences.'
Click the 'Keyboard & Mouse' icon to open the 'Preferences' pane for your keyboard and mouse.
Click the 'Keyboard' button at the top of the window.
Remove the check from the 'Illuminate keyboard in low light conditions' box at the bottom of the window.
Close the 'Keyboard & Mouse' window to return to the desktop.
