How to Hide Icons on a Mac Desktop

Click anywhere on the desktop of your computer to switch to the 'Finder.'
Go to the 'Finder' menu at the top of the screen and select 'Preferences.'
Go to the 'General' tab at the top of the preferences window.
Uncheck all of the boxes underneath the 'Show items on Desktop' label.
Close the preferences window to save the settings. Icons for hard disks and other media will now be hidden on the desktop.
