How to Connect a Mac to a PC With Firewire (10 Steps)

Turn on both computers. Connect one end of the Firewire cord into the back of the PC and the other end into the Mac. Wait a few seconds for the computers to recognize the Firewire.
Cancel the 'Found New Hardware' prompt that appears on the PC. This prompt will repeatedly come up and it should repeatedly be closed.
Go to the 'Start' menu and then to 'Control Panel.' Then click on 'Network Connections.' Find the icon that says '1394 Connection' and right-click on it. The 'Properties' option will appear. Click on it.
Select the 'TCP/IP' button when the 'IP over Firewire' selection appears. Then select the 'Properties' button.
Choose the 'Use the Following IP Address' selection when the next window appears. Enter the following into the field: '192.168.3.1' and hit 'OK.'
On the Mac, go to 'System Preferences' by clicking on the Apple logo on the top left corner of the screen. After clicking 'System Preferences,' select 'Network Settings' and then 'Built-in Firewire.'
In the IP address field, enter the same numbers you entered on the PC: '192.168.3.1', then click on the 'Show All' button in the top of the window.
Choose 'Sharing' after clicking the 'Show All' window (which takes you back to 'System Preferences'). In the 'Sharing' screen, check 'Remote Login'.
Visit winscp.net (see Resources section) to download WINSCP. After it has downloaded, open it. When the prompt asks for the Firewire IP address, enter the same address you entered previously-'192.168.3.1'-and log in using your Mac log in information.
The contents of the Mac hard drive will appear and you can now copy or drag files back and forth between the computers.
